In May
the Guild has an Open Day / Interclub Competition open to
the public. On this day 9 Clubs from Taupo to Wellington
compete for the Best Display Table, Colt Lathe Trophy,
Scrollsaw Activity, 5 Minute Activity and Individual
Prizes. Related Commercial Suppliers and Wood merchants are
also in attendance giving plenty of opportunity for
enthusiasts to gather supplies.
In July
the Guild has a jamboree event called ‘Roundup’. At Roundup
registered participants from any woodworking guild in the
country can bring a lathe, scrollsaw, pyrography machine,
carving tools, workstations or whatever and just simply have
a fun weekend together. This is not open to the public.
In October
members of the Guild who opt to join the subgroup ‘Crafters’
have the opportunity to sell their woodwork at a local
prominent site. Since 1994 this has been held in the Kmart
Plaza Complex.
In November
the Guild celebrates Pinocchio Night where it presents toys
made by members throughout the year, to five local charities
for distribution to the less advantaged at Christmas time.
In between these events there are occasional workshop visits
organised, events held by other guilds to take part in and
other major woodwork competitions that can be entered into.
